The component that is the base in these cars is the motor. The motors in these cars usually work with batteries that use brushed DC electric motor. The factor that affects the functioning of a DC electric motor is the attraction of electromagnet towards a permanent magnet placed within the motor structure. The efficiency of this phenomenon, along with the car proportionality decide how well the car your kid has will work.

Here is what an electrical cars comprises of –

  • A wire or an iron rod coiled in the motor structure, acting as the electromagnet for the car.
  • There is also a permanent magnet for providing an opposing force to the electromagnet, so as to create the motion.
  • A commuter made of copper, that reverses the current to the electromagnet.
  • A shaft to connect the electromagnet and the permanent magnet, and to allow movement.

About the motor-

The motor is basically made up of an electromagnet and a permanent magnet. In different cars, the size of these component varies. The size of the electromagnet and the permanent magnet is always in comparison to the size of the motor and the car itself. The bigger the car, the bigger its components. Same is the case with the batteries that provide power to the whole system. The batteries should be proportional to other components.

Here’s how an electric car works

There is usually a button to control the motor system. The whole structure is placed on top of the Car’s lower half, which is usually a plastic tray. This part has various rods that connect it to the wheels. The battery powers the entirety of the structure and is always proportional to the motor, in all various designs. If you have a bigger car, the batteries and the motor will also be bigger. Batteries are connected to the motor with wires.

The play between these two components results in the motion. The motion is achieved by reversing the polarity of the current through the electromagnet. With distance between the two, the electromagnet and the permanent magnet repel each other, causing the car to move. The car is attached to the motor and the motion is carried out due to this mechanism.

It is very important that these various constituents of the car are placed correctly. The batteries are connected to the electromagnet through the wires and are usually housed in a separate compartment from where they can be replaced if necessary.

Storage is another factor that you have to keep in mind. Find a place that where the car is safe from the elements. Make sure that you keep it clean. Keep checking on the performance every few days to make sure that some part is not faulty. In case there is some part faulty, replace it with a new one.
